On 28 July, Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston, officially opened Kingston Community Furniture’s (KCF) first retail outlet on Dollary Parade, Kingston.
Well situated, this high street presence will make KCF easier to find for shoppers who need to furnish their homes on a very tight budget. KCF’s primary charitable purpose is to provide affordable furniture to anyone experiencing deprivation and or marginalisation, and last year helped nearly 1200 disadvantaged households furnish their homes.
‘It’s a fantastic initiative,’ commented Goldsmith.
KCF’s spacious furniture shop sells everything from wardrobes and sofas to cookers and fridges, all fully tested and ready to be collected or delivered. All stock is in a fantastic condition, some of which has been restored or upcycled, making it a great place to find something a little different at a good price. Discounts may be available for those who are unemployed or on a tight budget.
‘It’s a great next step for KCF and a personal dream come true,’ commented Service Manager Adrian Collins. ‘I’m proud to have played a part in it,’
The shoppers are delighted too,
‘The shop looks lovely and the furniture is wonderful,’ said a recent visitor to the shop.
Much of KCF’s stock comes from house clearances and domestic collections, so if you have anything you’d like to pass on, give us a call. If we can’t reuse or upcycle it, we will recycle it. Last year KCF recycled almost 400 tonnes of waste resulting in an estimated carbon saving of 1705 tonnes.
