The value of information and advice

The value of information and advice

Our Information, Advice and Advocacy team reports:

In the financial year which ended in March 2013 we were in contact with over 1,400 people. The enquiries covered a wide range of issues – from how to find an electrician, where to hire a wheelchair, how to pay for staying in a care home and help to claim disability benefits or get a Blue Badge. We also helped older people and their families to challenge incorrect or unfair decisions regarding services and benefits.

Our staff and volunteers visit people in their homes and help to fill out forms and write letters. In the same year we helped them to claim over £440,000 in disability and other benefits and financial support.

The fact remains that many older people are going without benefits they are entitled to, such as Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance.  In many cases people don’t know that these benefits exist, and if they do they often assume they are not entitled to them, when they might be.

Are you missing out?

If you think you, or someone you care for, might be missing out, get in touch. We can also help with applications for Blue Badge and Taxicards. Our service is quality assured and our expert caseworkers offer support to, and advocate for, older people to assist them in making the best decisions for their own lives in order that they can live independently in the community.
