Support us Donate A legacy of care: £80,000 for 80 Years Donate Fundraise A legacy of care — and a future you can help shape In 1946, as communities rebuilt after the Second World War, a small group of local people in Malden and Coombe came together with a simple belief: that older people should not face later life alone. They formed what was then the Malden and Coombe Old People’s Welfare Association, one of the first organisations of its kind in the country. That simple act of community kindness was the beginning of what is now Staywell. From those early days, Staywell has always been about people helping people — offering companionship, practical help and reassurance long before there was a full welfare system in place. Over the decades, the organisation evolved to meet changing needs, becoming Age Concern Kingston upon Thames, and later Staywell — a name that reflects our enduring purpose: helping people stay well, connected and supported in the place they call home. While much has changed since 1946, the need has not gone away. Today, many older people still face loneliness, declining health, financial pressure and uncertainty. Staywell continues to respond in the same spirit it was founded — locally rooted, compassionate and practical — supporting thousands of people each year across Kingston, Surbiton, New Malden and Chessington. When crisis hits, Staywell steps in. When isolation threatens, Staywell reconnects people. When everyday challenges begin to feel overwhelming, Staywell offers help early — before problems escalate. By donating today, you are not just supporting a service. You are becoming part of a legacy nearly 80 years in the making — one that began with neighbours looking out for one another, and continues because people like you believe that later life should be lived with dignity, connection and care. Your support helps ensure this legacy continues — today, tomorrow and for generations to come. 'I still live independently in my old family home, and could not do so without the help provided by Staywell. I am immensely grateful to Staywell for making the unbearable horror of the final years that bit easier. It has also been done with such grace, sympathy and understanding, that one wonders where these angels come from in this world that seems to be getting uglier and more traumatic. Staywell's humanity to us oldies and the disabled restores my fading faith in mankind.’ How can I donate?
