Rooted in community

Staywell’s story begins in the aftermath of the Second World War, when communities across the country recognised that older people had been left particularly vulnerable by social upheaval, poverty and isolation. In response, local residents came together to form Older People’s Welfare Associations—voluntary, community led organisations created to provide practical help, social connection and dignity at a time when statutory support was limited. We explore why this history matters in 2026.

The Bradbury

The Bradbury offers a warm and supportive environment for older people who would like to socialise with others in similar circumstances. During the day you will be well looked after, enjoy a freshly made two-course meal and have fun through a range of structured activities including chair-based exercise. Located close to the centre of Kingston, the centre is contemporary and bright in feel, with an enclosed patio garden and summerhouse for use in the warmer months of the year.
